time of her death, Penney was applying to a program in at Southern
Maine Community College to further her education in the field of
radiation therapy for oncology patients. With this in mind, we have
established the Penney Richards Memorial Fund to award scholarships
to individuals who are pursuing education in the medical field.
The fund is in the initial growing stage, and we plan to make the
first awards to students for the fall 2011 semester. Applicants may
be of any age and level of education. We encourage those who are
already working in the medical field and who are furthering their
studies for more advanced training or higher level degrees.
Please visit here to download a copy of the application, as well as for a schedule of the application
deadline and the date for awarding of scholarships. Announcements
will also be made through the local media, as well as to the staff
at Massachusetts General Hospital's North Shore Cancer Center, where
Penney spent her days helping cancer patients attack their
Scholarship applications will be reviewed by a committee consisting
of business and professional leaders, as well as Penney's parents.
